Ram Gopal Varma Says Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 Could Earn ₹2000 Crore, Claims It May Challenge South Films

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has shared his confidence in Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, saying the sequel could become a massive box office success. The film, which is the follow-up to the 2025 hit Dhurandhar, is scheduled to release on March 19.

In an interview with Variety India, Varma said he expects Dhurandhar 2 to perform even better than the first installment. According to him, the audience has already formed a strong connection with the story and characters, which could help the sequel attract huge numbers at the box office.

Varma also revealed that both parts of the film were shot simultaneously, which means the sequel will feel like a direct continuation of the first movie rather than a traditional franchise installment. He compared the structure to SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster Baahubali series, where the story unfolds across two films.

Speaking about the film’s action style, Varma emphasized that Dhurandhar focuses on realistic action instead of exaggerated stunt sequences, making it different from many commercial films. He believes this grounded approach could resonate strongly with audiences.

The filmmaker also made a bold prediction about its box office potential. Varma said that if Dhurandhar 2 manages to collect between ₹1500 crore and ₹2000 crore globally, it could shake the dominance of South Indian films at the box office. He added that many South films still follow a more traditional commercial format.

With heavy promotions planned across South India and growing buzz around Ranveer Singh’s performance, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
