Global football icon Lionel Messi turned heads far beyond the football field as he paid a special visit to Vantara, the wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation centre founded by Anant Ambani in Jamnagar. What unfolded was a heartwarming blend of tradition, compassion and awe-inspiring moments that instantly went viral.

Messi arrived with his Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul, receiving a grand traditional welcome complete with folk music, floral honours and a ceremonial aarti. Dressed in a shawl, tilak and rudraksha malas, Messi stunned fans with his serene Indian avatar as he participated in temple rituals and offered prayers for peace, unity and harmony.

The football legend then embarked on an immersive tour of Vantara’s world-class facilities. From care centres for big cats, herbivores and reptiles to a foster unit for orphaned animals and a multi-speciality wildlife hospital, Messi witnessed firsthand the scale of conservation and rehabilitation efforts underway. He was seen joyfully feeding giraffes, rhinos and elephants, while closely observing veterinary procedures and animal recovery programs.

One of the most unforgettable moments of the visit was Messi’s interaction with Maniklal, a rescued elephant calf. In a playful twist that delighted onlookers, Messi joined in a football enrichment activity with the calf—merging his love for the sport with animal care in a truly unique way.
Adding an emotional highlight to the day, Anant and Radhika Ambani paid a special tribute by naming a lion cub “Lionel” in honour of the Argentine superstar. Clearly moved, Messi praised Vantara’s work, calling it “truly beautiful” and applauding the centre’s unwavering commitment to wildlife welfare and conservation.
The visit concluded with traditional rituals symbolising goodwill and new beginnings, leaving fans worldwide mesmerised by a rare glimpse of Messi embracing India’s culture and spirituality—proving once again that his influence extends far beyond football.
